Individualized & Interdisciplinary Study Program

Aaron Johnson is a class of 2021 graduate of the UConn Individualized and Interdisciplinary Studies Program. Dr. Fragomeni was Aaron’s major advisor in this year-and-half long research project focused on urban mobility and design in the city of Detroit, Michigan. Aaron’s undergraduate thesis titled: Sauk Trail East focuses on the world’s first public connected autonomous vehicle corridor (CAV-C). The intended route links Ann Arbor to the City of Detroit, whose residents have faced severe historic and ongoing issues surrounding transportation equity and access. This study examines CAV-C’s potential to relink Detroit communities via changes to land use, modal choice, and intermodal prioritization. Aaron was co-advised by Dr. Carol Atkinson-Palombo (UConn Department of Geography) and Dr. Norman Garrick (UConn Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering).
He is currently a Masters Student at the University of Michigan’s Master of Urban and Regional Planning program.
